Fishing at Lake Awoonga

Lake Awoonga is Queensland’s premier inland, freshwater fishing destination. Famed for its Barramundi fishing, GAWB regularly stocks the lake with healthy Barramundi, Mangrove Jack and Sea Mullet fingerlings. Fingerlings are bred at Aquaculture Gladstone

There is no closed season for Barramundi at Lake Awoonga, however, seasonal size and possession limits apply. Please refer to the Department of Primary Industries freshwater fishing regulations for all other species limits and permitted activities. A SIPS permit is not required to fish at Lake Awoonga.

There are two available boat ramps into Lake Awoonga. The main boat ramp at Ironbark Gully, and the Trevor Burgess Boat Ramp at Boynedale (southern side of Lake Awoonga).
