Collection notice

Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) collects and manages personal information in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act) and the Queensland Privacy Principles (QPP’s) at Schedule 3 of the IP Act.

Collecting personal information

GAWB may collect your personal information for the following purposes:

  • responding to your request for information;
  • providing a service to you;
  • complying with a legislative requirement; or
  • those set out in this Policy.

The kinds of personal information that GAWB collects include the following:

  • your name;
  • address;
  • telephone phone number;
  • email address;
  • credit card details;
  • photographs;
  • visual images captured through our CCTV networks;
  • any organisation with which you are associated and your position within that organisation; or
  • any other information you provide about yourself or others that relates to an interaction with GAWB.
  • required or authorised by law;
  • to the Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service, with your consent;
  • for the purposes of announcing the winner of a competition promoted by GAWB or notifying the winner to collect their prize; or
  • for the purposes of contacting you about the sale of fingerlings (where prior consent is obtained).
  • any other information that may be necessary in order to provide you with our products or services.

Security of personal information

GAWB takes reasonable steps to protect your Personal Information from:

misuse, interference or loss; and

  • unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
  • GAWB has security measures in place to protect your personal information. These include:
  • restricting access to limited personnel;
  • ensuring software is password protected;
  • staff training;
  • physical and electronic security; and
  • policies and procedures which are regularly updated.

Where GAWB no longer needs your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, and the information is not contained in a public record, and GAWB is not required to keep the information under law; GAWB will take reasonable steps to destroy your information or ensure the information is de-identified.

Accessing or correcting your personal information

You may request access to, or correction of your personal information held by GAWB, by making your request in writing to the:

Your request must contain the following details:

  • Your contact details;
  • The information that you seek access to, or the information that you seek corrected or updated;
  • Where you are requesting access to your personal information – how you would like to receive access to that information (such as receiving a copy by email or post, or whether you just wish to view the information); and
  • Where you are requesting access to your personal information – whether you authorise another person or organisation to access the personal information on your behalf.

In relation to a request for personal information to be corrected or updated, GAWB will take reasonable steps to ensure that, having regard to the purpose for which the information is held, the information is accurate, up to date, complete, relevant and not misleading.

If GAWB denies your request for access to, or correction of your personal information held by GAWB, GAWB will provide reasons for doing so.

GAWB does not charge a fee in relation to a request for access to, or correction of, personal information.

Complaints

Privacy complaints are dealt with under GAWB’s Privacy Policy and Procedure.

If you believe GAWB has not dealt with your personal information in accordance with the IP Act, you may make a complaint. A complaint must:

  • be made in writing;
  • be made within 12 months of the date of the alleged breach; and
  • give full details of the complaint.

GAWB will consider your complaint and respond in writing within 45 business days. If you have not received a response within 45 business days of making the complaint, or you are dissatisfied with the response, you may lodge your complaint with the Information Commissioner.

Use of cookies on GAWB website

A ‘cookie’ is a small data file transferred by a website to your computer’s hard drive. GAWB uses cookies as a navigational aid only and are not used for data collection purposes.

GAWB does not store personal information in cookies. Cookies utilised by GAWB’s website are strictly limited to providing the visitor with the ability to customise the site for return visits or to allow the visitor to carry information across different pages. Management logs

When you access this web site, – the date and time of your visit and the pages accessed are logged for statistical purposes only. How GAWB keeps records of correspondence, information and feedback

Any information received by GAWB may be a public record under the Public Records Act 2023 and will be kept or otherwise dealt with in accordance with that legislation.
