GAWB is committed to engaging with and celebrating the communities in which we operate. This year, GAWB came together with First Nations peoples to celebrate NAIDOC Week and showcase career pathways at Dorrie Day.
Darumbal NAIDOC
Community and culture came together in a show of unity for NAIDOC week in Rockhampton on 9 June 2024.
This year’s theme was Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud. This theme honoured the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture with fire being a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The event was bursting with colour, storytelling and traditional dance. Attracting thousands of locals, the event began in traditional style with a smoking ceremony followed by cultural dance to celebrate Australia’s oldest living culture – the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The event offered an important opportunity for the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline team to connect with First Nations people, elders and the wider community, listening to their stories and offering insights and information regarding the future of water security.
Dorrie Day
The Central Queensland region is packed with First Nations talent and the FGP team were excited to meet dozens of eager jobseekers and students at the annual Dorrie Day in Gladstone who are aiming for a future in construction.
First taking place in 2020, Dorrie Day is a great opportunity to showcase the amazing careers on offer at GAWB and the FGP as well as career pathways into construction and engineering in Central Queensland.
The First Nations careers day event at Gladstone’s Phillip Street Communities and Families Precinct is hosted by representatives from the FNBGGGTB and offers an opportunity for jobseekers, students and employers to connect – unlocking new possibilities and career paths for First Nations Australians.
GAWB and the FGP principal contractor MBJV are proud supporters of the event.
