East End Pipeline opens under budget and on time

East End Pipeline Project delivered on time and under budget

Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) has completed the $57 million East End Pipeline Project on time and under budget, strengthening the reliability of the region’s treated water network.

The project has replaced 23 kilometres of ageing treated water pipeline between Boat Creek Pump Station and East End Reservoir and included upgrades to the Boat Creek Pump Station to increase capacity and improve overall system performance.

GAWB Acting Chief Executive Officer Scott Wikman said completing the project on time and under budget was a strong outcome for GAWB and its customers.

“The East End Pipeline is an important part of GAWB’s water network, and its renewal was necessary to ensure we can continue providing safe and reliable water to our customers,” Mr Wikman said.

“Delivering a 23-kilometre pipeline is a significant undertaking, and completing the project on time and under budget reflects the planning and hard work of everyone involved.

“Importantly, this investment reduces the maintenance requirements associated with the ageing pipeline and gives us greater confidence in the reliability of this part of our network for many years to come.”

The pipeline supplies treated water to Mt Larcom and several industrial customers.

Mr Wikman said the project formed part of GAWB’s ongoing investment in maintaining and improving its water infrastructure.

“While major new infrastructure is important, we also need to continually invest in the network we already have,” Mr Wikman said.

“Projects such as the East End Pipeline help ensure our existing infrastructure remains reliable and fit for purpose while supporting the long-term water needs of the Gladstone region.”
