Gladstone wins rights to host prestigious pests and weeds symposium

Gladstone Area Water Board has been selected to host the 2025 Pest Animal and Weed Symposium (2025 PAWS), bringing industry and pest and weed prevention professionals together to share ideas, solutions, and innovations.

Gladstone Area Water Board CEO Darren Barlow said it was an exciting opportunity for Gladstone.

“This symposium will bring around 250 attendees into our region, bringing a range of tourism boosts to the Gladstone area” said Mr Barlow.

“There will also be the long term benefits for Gladstone, with a sharper focus on pest and weed management and improved knowledge with our local specialists.”

The 2025 symposium will be a highlight for the industry as it is also a milestone year for organisers Invasive Species Queensland, with the organisation to celebrate 50 years’ of operations in 2025 according to Dr Michael Widderick, Invasive Species Queensland President.

“GAWB was selected as the host for the 2025 PAWS because of their experience as land managers, their commitment to making the symposium a success, and the location, with Gladstone boasting all the conference requirements we need,” said Dr Widderick.

“We are delighted GAWB will be our 2025 PAWS host.”
