Long term service and experience ensure the future remains bright at GAWB

Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) has celebrated 115 years of collective employee service at a recent presentation to recognise eleven long-serving employees.

Starting with five years of service and working up to 20 years, each employee was recognised in a celebration led by GAWB Chief Executive Officer Darren Barlow.

“From small beginnings with just ten employees back in 1973, GAWB now has a diverse team working across a variety of portfolios and locations,” said Mr Barlow.

“From network operations and dam safety engineering to fingerling production and maintaining our recreational areas, along with a multitude of support services, there are so many technical skills and specialists required to safely and reliably deliver bulk water services for our customers.

“Each person plays big a part in our success, and we’re honoured that many of these people choose to stay at GAWB long term.

“We’re fortunate to have a significant number of employees who have made long-term commitments to working at GAWB, including Water Quality and Environment Technical Officer Lisa Wright, who is celebrating 15 years with us.

“Lisa has worked across various roles at GAWB and there’s not much about GAWB that she doesn’t know.

“The knowledge, experience and mentoring provided by our long serving employees is vital for our growth and stability as the region’s bulk water supplier.

“It’s a really exciting time to be at GAWB, as we work to secure Gladstone water’s future with the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline ready for completion next year,” Mr Barlow said.

Established in 1973, GAWB is an intrinsic part of the Gladstone region – our people not only work in the region, they also call it home.

We have a small but dedicated team of passionate employees, working to deliver safe, secure, and reliable water supply to our customers.

Our highly diverse portfolio of assets and responsibilities means we have a range of career opportunities across a variety of areas such as engineering, science and environment, policy and planning, project management, trades, dam and water treatment operation, land management and corporate services.
