Camping is permitted only at the Lake Awoonga Caravan Park or at the Boynedale Bush Camp. To book a camp site or cabin at the Lake Awoonga Caravan Park please call (07) 4975 0155.

The Boynedale Bush Camp is a basic facility, provided free to the public for camping for up to seven days within a thirty-day period.

BBQs and campfires

Sheltered picnic and barbeque areas are positioned throughout the Lake Awoonga Recreation Area. Fires are only to be lit within designated fireplaces.

Accessibility

Lake Awoonga has specially designated parking bays and picnic areas which are accessible to people with a disability. Disabled toilet access is available at Ironbark Gully and Riverston Bay.

Visitors with special needs can contact our team on 0419 661 482 to reserve appropriate facilities.

The two walking trails suit people of different fitness levels. Around 25% of Australia’s bird species can be found in the Lake Awoonga region, and a leisurely walk may provide you with a good viewing vantage.

Events at Awoonga Dam

Whether you or your Club would like to hold an event at the Recreation Area, or on or around the lake itself, GAWB is happy to discuss your options.

Please complete an Application to Hold Event at Lake Awoonga and submit it to GAWB at least 3 months before your planned event.

Please note that if your event is an Aquatic Event, application must also be made to Maritime Safety Queensland:
